Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – January has been packed with meaningful work. Below are key highlights from the first month of the 119th Congress. As we move into February, Congressman Luttrell's focus will continue to be strengthening national security, bolstering border security, advocating for responsible fiscal policies, and supporting our veterans.

Border Security Takes Center Stage
Right out of the gate, President Trump signed several Executive Orders to strengthen our border security, including:

  • Revocation of Birthright Citizenship: An executive order was issued aiming to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants.
  • National Emergency Declaration at the Southern Border: President Trump declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. This declaration facilitated the mobilization of military resources and expedited funding for border wall construction and other security measures.
  • Designation of Certain Gangs as Terrorist Organizations: An executive order directed the U.S. Department of State to designate gangs such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua as terrorist organizations. This designation allows the federal government to block their assets and disrupt their financial networks.
  • Enhanced Deportation Efforts: The administration expanded the authority of federal agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), to assist in deportation efforts.
The Laken Riley Act was officially signed into law by President Trump
This legislation will give Immigrations & Customs Enforcement (ICE) authority to detain illegal aliens who’ve committed theft-related crimes. We will not continue to lose innocent Americans because of President Biden’s failed open border policies.

To continue strengthening our national security, Congressman Luttrell cosponsored the End Birthright Citizenship for Illegal Aliens Act. This legislation will close loopholes that exploit birthright citizenship.

Congressman Luttrell and several of his colleagues sent a letter to former Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas requesting requesting that all reasonable steps be taken to prevent the destruction of all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information, that are or may be responsive to this congressional inquiry, including memoranda, numerical data, reports, letters, and subpoenas received by Congress surrounding border security and immigration policies of the Biden-Harris Administration from January 20, 2021, to the present.

Congressman Luttrell penned an op-ed in the Washington Times underscoring that human trafficking is not a distant, overseas issue—it’s happening right here in our communities, across rural towns and major cities in America. We need to attack human trafficking from all angles: prevention, prosecution, and protection for victims. Read it here.

Lastly, Congressman Luttrell introduced Empowering Law Enforcement to Fight Sex Trafficking Demand Act. This legislation to provide law enforcement the resources to combat human trafficking at the state and local level. We cannot tolerate traffickers who force men, women, and children into modern day slavery. Read more about it here.
