Sen. Cruz Holds, Chairs 1st Senate Hearing on Massive Minnesota Fraud Revelations

"I invited Gov. Walz, Attorney General Ellison, Mayor Frey and Tiki Brown, the Commissioner of the Minnesota Dept. of Children, Youth & Families, but none agreed to testify to defend their conduct."

By Sen. Ted Cruz

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – There are few crimes more morally repugnant than stealing from vulnerable children, and that’s exactly what many Somalis did in Minnesota.

Last week, I chaired a hearing focusing on the massive fraud we’ve seen in the state of Minnesota – and Federal Prosecutors in Minnesota now estimate that half or more of the $18 billion spent since 2018 may have been lost to fraud.

But Minnesota Democrats didn't just fail to stop the fraud — they made it easy and profitable.

For example, in Minnesota, Somali children are seven times more likely than their non-Somali peers to receive autism “treatment.”

Hundreds of millions of dollars from the fraud in Minnesota have funded radical Islamic terror in Somalia, making the Minnesota taxpayer the largest source of funds for the Somali terror group Al-Shabaab.

I invited Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Ellison, Mayor Frey, and Tiki Brown, the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families – but none of them agreed to testify this week to defend their conduct.

The people of Minnesota and the American people deserve better.
