12 Senators and 75 Representative Made the Grade for Business this Session
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas Association of Business (TAB) the voice on public policy issues affecting Texas business will release its biennial legislative session report card during a press conference
Tuesday November 14 at 10 A.M. at TAB headquarters 1209 Nueces.
The report card ranks all Texas legislators on their pro-business voting record; this year is particularly impactful on the heels of a challenging legislative session and special session. TAB evaluates the bills and issues that impact small and large employers across Texas and scores lawmakers on their votes on these important issues.
The scorecard is created by evaluating legislators votes on the bills that will impact Texas businesses; these are the priorities of the TAB public policy committees. The Texas Association of Business is a non-partisan organization working with all legislators to protect Texas jobs and strengthen our economy" said Jeff Moseley CEO Texas Association of Business. We appreciate the work done last session and look forward to whats ahead. I commend initiatives such as Speaker Strauss Select Committee on Economic Competitiveness as well as Lt. Governor Patricks interim charges related to disaster recovery to ensure that the conversation on the economic viability of the state is kept a top priority."
During the 2017 legislative session and special session lawmakers were faced with the controversial bathroom bill an unnecessary and discriminatory piece of legislation that multiple economists warned would negatively impact the Texas economy. The Texas Association of Business was proud to unite more than 700 business faith and law enforcement leaders in defeating the unnecessary legislation.
Anti-business legislation can level an economic toll on Texas that is far reaching" said William Mellor vice president & general manager AngelouEconomics. It can undermine future economic development efforts and create labor market disruptions across the state. The goal of economic development is to create a competitive advantage and encourage business investment. It is important for the Texas Association of Business to continue to promote policies and priorities that will grow jobs."
TABs scorecard takes into account a large variety of legislation that affected the business environment including health policy franchise tax repeal permitting reform public education economic development hailstorm litigation and port financing. The bathroom bill" was also included in the scoring process. TAB works hard to make sure full integrity is upheld in the compilation of the scorecard process by verifying numbers through journal votes and making sure they are recorded. Legislators and staff are also notified in advance of TABs position on various legislation before they cast their vote.
