Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The city of Carrollton recently became the states first local government entity to achieve specific transparency goals in public pensions through Comptroller Glenn Hegars Transparency Stars program.
Carrollton received a Public Pensions Transparency Star awarded to local governments whose websites provide visual and narrative explanations of actuarial valuations contribution rates and benchmark comparisons in addition to other criteria.
I am happy to congratulate the city of Carrollton for its ongoing commitment to greater public trust" Hegar said. Public pension transparency is increasingly important to Texas taxpayers. With this achievement the city has shown we can all be leaders in responsible fiscal management."
Carrollton has already received Transparency Stars for their efforts in the categories of traditional finances debt obligations and economic development. The addition of the Public Pensions star makes Carrollton the first local government to reach 4-star status. After receiving a Traditional Finances Transparency Star the program allows local entities to apply for additional stars for a total of five stars:
