Texas chemical product manufacturing subsector is responsible for $36.6 billion in annual exports about 320000 direct and indirect jobs and $55.5 billion in contributions to the states gross domestic product (GDP) the greatest amount of any manufacturing subsector in the state.
The basic chemical manufacturing industry makers of petrochemicals industrial gas and ethyl alcohol is highly concentrated in Texas Hegar said. In fact in 2016 two-thirds of all U.S. petrochemical production jobs were in Texas. Chemical manufacturing employment has remained stable since early 2015 alleviating the effects of job losses in other manufacturing subsectors caused by declining crude oil prices.
In all Texas manufacturers were responsible for 3 million direct and indirect jobs in 2016 as well as $210.3 billion in exports and $225.8 billion in GDP. The average annual salary for direct jobs is nearly $74000.
