Cong. McCaul's Opponent, Democrat Mike Siegel, Brings 'Green New Deal' attacks on U.S. Energy & Ending 'Over-Policing' to Texas

Democrat once defended ultra-violent leftist group hunted by FBI for declaring war against the American government

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democrat Congressional hopeful Mike Siegel – running in Central Texas' 10th Congressional District against Republican Cong. Michael McCaul – joined a 2008 "Statement of Solidarity" with self-described Radical Communist and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, who was hunted by the F.B.I. for more than a decade because of his role in the bombing of the government buildings.

As a founder and leader of the revolutionary terror cell known as "The Weather Underground," Ayers encouraged "the complete destruction of imperialism, the seizure of the means of production, and the building of socialism," through armed action against the American government, as their 1974 manifesto reads.

Ayers was involved in bombings at the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, and the New York City Police Department during the early 1970s.

Siegel (right,) who has previously touted himself as a "proud red-diaper baby" by comparing his parents to Cuban Communist Revolutionary Che Guevara and Cuban Communist strongman Fidel Castro, signed the letter defending the integrity of Ayers while attending Cornell Law School.

Siegel has also endorsed the "Green New Deal" and Sen. Bernie Sanders "Medicare for All' proposals on the campaign trail, pledging to end "mass incarceration" and "over-policing," according on his website.

Weather Underground was one of many ultra-violent leftist groups that the FBI surveilled and dismantled throughout the 1970s after the group formally declared war against the American government in 1970.

"We write to support our colleague Professor William Ayers," the letter signed by Siegel reads.

"The current characterizations of Professor Ayers – 'unrepentant terrorist,' ‘lunatic leftist' – are unrecognizable to those who know or work with him," it said.

"They were very radical," said University of California at Berkeley scholar Steven Hayward recently.

"They believed in bombing, assassination, and violence to overthrow the system."

To this day Ayers offers few regrets about his history with the organization.

"He’s totally unrepentant for his radical past," Hayward said.

President Barack Obama was also once pressed by Republican John McCain's presidential campaign for his association with Ayers while a "community organizer" in Chicago, though Obama denounced the violent means taken by Weather Underground.

The Texas 10th Congressional District race pits Siegel against veteran Congressman Michael McCaul (left,) who currently serves as the Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

McCaul was recently recognized and endorsemed by local Houston and Austin news media as a "constructive and effective member of Congress," and his fellow Democrat colleague, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) has called McCaul "a common-sense, moderate type of individual."

Siegel challenged, and lost to McCaul for the same congressional seat in 2018.
