Texas Families Show Strong Demand for Education Freedom Account

The overwhelming response signals clear demand from families seeking more flexibility and control over their child’s education.

More than 274,000 Texas students have applied for the state’s new Education Freedom Account (EFA) program, following the close of the application window on March 31.

Why it matters:
The overwhelming response signals clear demand from families seeking more flexibility and control over their child’s education. The strong turnout positions Texas as one of the largest states advancing education freedom policies designed to expand access to a wider range of learning options.

By the numbers:
  • 274,183 total student applications
  • Backed by a $1 billion investment
  • Launching in 2026-2027 as the largest ESA rollout in U.S. history
What we're saying:
“Texas families made one thing clear: they want more education options and the ability to choose what works best for their child. The response to this application window sends a strong signal—families across Texas are ready for greater flexibility and more opportunities.
