Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA), Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA) and the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers today participated in a workshop held in Midland, Texas, organized by the Public Utility Commission (PUC). The workshop focused on House Bill 5066 relating to transmission implementation and the development of a reliability plan for the Permian Basin region.
“Oil and natural gas are essential to meeting the demands of our everyday lives, and the production of these irreplaceable resources depends on additional electrical transmission to make available reliable power sources,” said TXOGA President Todd Staples. “We appreciate the PUC for their hard work putting together today’s workshop. Industry remains committed to working collaboratively with the PUC, ERCOT, and other stakeholders to implement HB 5066 to ensure that the Lone Star State remains the energy leader.”
“The ability to continue to expand development and production in the most important producing state in the country should not be further hindered by the sheer lack of electric power,” said Karr Ingham, Interim President of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.

TXOGA Chief Economist Dean Foreman provided trending data to the PUC relating to the growth and potential of the Permian Basin. The data highlighted by Foreman supports the need for additional electrical transmission capabilities.
The workshop also included an operator panel that featured representatives from ConocoPhillips, Pioneer Natural Resources, Chevron, Diamondback Energy, Endeavor Energy, and Targa Resources. The panelists spoke on the importance of transmission implementation in meeting growing energy demand across Texas and the nation as well as industry efforts to increase electrification across the Permian Basin to ensure the availability of power for field operations.
