We finally have a president who is serious about getting the issue of illegal immigration under control said Cong. Kevin Brady after the announcement. When it comes to border security and our immigration policy American families must come first. Texans know our immigration system is broken and how important it is to have a secure border. The back door of illegal immigration must be closed and the front door of legal immigration must be fixed Brady said. First we must physically have control over the border itself. Second we need the appropriate resources within the state to enforce our immigration laws.Brady further agreed with Trumps recent stance on the border adding this is the right message and a way to encourage Congress to go to work to fix these issues. Trump has outlined a series of steps that are crucial to fixing this problem including funding to build a wall securing our southern border; greater resources for manpower and security technology; and the closure of legal loopholes that allow illegal immigration to flourish the White House stated in a release. A completed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border would be the first step to secure the border according to former District 15 State Rep. Steve Toth (right) who is seeking election for the same seat in the November general election.
One of the achievements under Trump has been the change in rules of engagement that under Obama tied the hands of U.S. Border Patrol to both defend themselves and our border Toth R-The Woodlands said.
U.S. Border Patrol under Obama was little more than border monitoring. If the border was fired on in the past they were instructed to leave the area rather than fire back. The gloves have come off and the cartels know that border patrol and Texas DPS are not to be messed with.
The cost of unchecked illegal immigration is draining the financial resources needed for educating our kids and maintaining the infrastructure of our state; we desperately need to close the border.
There is currently no estimated cost associated with the new efforts to send the National Guard to the border to fill in the gaps of the Border Patrol agents who have struggled to keep the border secure due to lack of manpower and resources. This is not the first time the National Guard has been deployed to the southern border. In 2012 President Barack Obama authorized the deployment of guardsmen to the border. President George W. Bush also authorized deployment of 6000 guardsmen to the border as a part of Operation Jump Start assisting in operations which resulted in the arrest of more than 173000 illegal immigrants the rescue of 100 people and the seizure of more than 300000 pounds of drugs according to information provided by the White House.
