Annual Awards Gala Also Features Nurse-Family Partnership Founder
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Dallas Texas TexProtects the Texas Association for the Protection of Children announced today that its Annual Awards Gala on October 20 raised a record $511435 to support their leadership in preventing child abuse in Texas. TexProtects successfully advocates for evidence-based family support programs Child Protective Services overhauls foster care reform and other measures that will help Texas children grow up healthy and free from abuse and neglect.

The Gala held at the beautiful and historic Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas recognized Texas Speaker of the House the Honorable Joe Straus with the Childrens Champion Award for his leadership in providing cost-effective solutions to our CPS system. Attendees also heard a moving keynote speech from Dr. David Olds founder of Nurse-Family Partnership one of the most proven of family support programs in reducing child maltreatment and exemplary of the programs for which TexProtects advocates.
TexProtects is so excited to present the Honorable Joe Straus with our 2016 Childrens Champion Award" said TexProtects founding CEO Madeline McClure. His creation of the Select Committee on Child Protection in 2014 to study child abuse- and neglect-related fatalities laid the groundwork and research base that will inform what we expect to be a landmark legislative session on child protection issues.
Earlier this year Speaker Straus declared that the Texas House will make child protection a top priority no matter how complex the problem and he has unrelentingly championed our cause through the legislative interim" said McClure. This kind of unwavering focus on Texas children will ultimately save both precious lives and scarce state resources."
Youve shown what happens when principled and compassionate people are brought together by a worthy purpose" Speaker Straus told donors attending the Gala. Now its up to those of us in public office to meet the standard that you all have set. No doubt we have a big job in front of us but we understand the stakes and are ready to get to work."
TexProtects fundraising effort was topped by a generous $75000 contribution from Alliance Data which has not only been a financial supporter but an invaluable partner in TexProtects research work.
TexProtects proven track record of using evidence-based data to bring about legislative change is one of the reasons we were drawn to their work" said Dana Beckman Alliance Data director of corporate affairs. But not only are they the best at what they do providing a voice for Texas most vulnerable community their return on investment is outstanding. For every $1 invested TexProtects is able to turn that into $21 of funding for family support programs.
This past year we were able to match our expertise in data-driven marketing technology with students from UT Dallas to create the ZipRisk map tool for TexProtects" added Beckman. This interactive tool will help philanthropists legislators and social service providers around the state identify the zip code areas with the highest risk factors for abuse and neglect so that prevention efforts funding and social services may be targeted to the greatest effect."
Our mission is to address and prevent child abuse and neglect through research advocacy and education" said McClure. The generosity that we saw at our Gala ensures that our work continues and will grow. A lot of people with big hearts stood up and did their part to make life better for Texas children."
