Senate Bill 295 passes Senate Committee Unanimously
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas I want to thank the members of the Senate for their vote of confidence in Senate Bill 295" said Chairman Eddie Lucio after the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations passed SB 295 Monday establishing a basic standard for the shelter and care of restrained dogs on a unanimous 6-0 vote.
I also want to thank members of law enforcement who testified in support of this bill Lucio said.
Under the stewardship of Chairman Lucio SB 295 will now move forward in Texas Senate.
The top legislative priority for the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) SB 295 would provide improvement and clarification to existing law in order to protect the health of dogs in Texas providing law enforcement the tools they need to intercede on behalf of a suffering dog.
This bipartisan 6-0 vote proves that this bill is one that members from both parties are behind" said Laura Donahue Executive Director of THLN.
The Texas Legislature is ready to put an end to the cruel practice of chaining dogs in Texas and ensure they have adequate shelter when they live outdoors" Donahue noted.
In thanking the members of the law enforcement community who testified in support of the bill Lucio added Their testimony including the harrowing visual of the giant chains some use to inhumanely restrain dogs was critical to our bills swift passage out of committee."
