WASHINGTON D.C. -- On Monday August 13 President Trump signed the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act known as the NDAA into law.
The NDAA as you may remember is the annual legislation Congress passes to outline its priorities for defense spending. Think of it as a legislative To Do" list that is specifically about funding for our troops a plan to spend X amount on pay raises Y amount on new planes and Z amount on training. The NDAA is then followed by a defense appropriations bill which is the process of signing the check" so to speak (IE allocating money to pay for these priorities). Its a two-step process and one step is now complete.
The NDAA continues our work to reverse the damage of the last decade and reassert the dominance of the American military. This NDAA is the earliest bill of its kind since 1977. It also means that our troops just got the largest pay raise in nearly a decade.
What else was in the FY19 bill?
- Funding to boost training and upgrade equipment
- Greater support for military spouses and families
- Reforms at the Pentagon
- Extension of resources for global counterterrorism efforts
