Tools for Texans - Plus 12 Months of Free Child Care for Service Industry Employees

This new program provides 12 months of a free child care scholarship to low-income parents who are employed in the service industry.

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – September has come to a close and while we welcome the cooler weather across Texas, the start of fall marks a new season of opportunity. In September, we celebrated Labor Day, an occasion to recognize the world class workforce we have here in Texas. Texas workers are the backbone of our economy and the foundation of our state. Our state’s population is booming because Texas has built a sturdy economic engine, one that attracts new residents and drives population growth every day. With this growth comes opportunity for all Texans to succeed.

When someone says free, we usually wonder what's the catch? But you heard it from us first, there is no catch. In further support of our mission to connect all Texas workers with a job, this month TWC announced a new tool in our toolbox of programs to aid workers. As you may know, the service industry has been hit especially hard throughout the past year and a half, and TWC is here to get our hospitality and service industry colleagues back to work and arm them with the tools needed to do so.

We've launched the Service Industry Recovery program, which uses federal COVID-relief funds to provide an extra focus on workers in the service industry. This new program provides 12 months of a free child care scholarship to low-income parents who are employed in the service industry. Texans across the state working in arts, entertainment and recreation, accommodations, food services and retail trade can contact their local Workforce Solutions office to learn more and apply for this program.

As our latest labor market data shows, Texas has jobs, and we’re here to ensure the workforce has the tools they need to get them.

For Texans looking to upskill and take the next step in their career, Metrix Learning is a free platform that provides access to over 5,000 courses designed to help Texans succeed. For those searching for their next opportunity, WorkInTexas.com offers a database of jobs available across the state from employers ready to hire.

Our skilled workforce is the primary reason companies move to Texas every day and it’s also why our state’s economy is thriving. Employers, employees and job seekers alike in Texas are resilient, and continue to stay the course making Texas the best state to live and do business.
