Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – "It has been an incredible privilege to work with employers, local communities, and partners across the state to develop workforce solutions that ensure the Texas economy stays on top," said the Commissioner responsible for representing Texas employers at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC,) Aaron Demerson, after he was recently appointed to serve as the new President & CEO of Texas Economic Development Corporation.
“More than four years ago I was entrusted with the honor of serving the greatest state in the country as Commissioner Representing Employers,” said Demerson.
“During my time at TWC, we helped build new partnerships and unlock new resources that will keep the Lone Star State’s workforce strong, and I will continue to serve with the same passion and purpose in my next role.”
Aaron Demerson was originally appointed by Governor Greg Abbott on Aug. 20, 2019, to represent the interests of employers on TWC’s three-member Commission. In this role, Demerson served as an advocate for almost 650,000 employers and over 3 million small businesses in Texas.
Shortly after his appointment, Commissioner Demerson was tasked with helping employers across Texas address COVID-related setbacks. In the process, his support led to the gain of almost 1.2 million more non-farm jobs than there were at the time of his appointment in 2019.

Before his appointment to TWC’s three-member commission, Demerson served as Director of the Office of Employer Initiatives at TWC. In that role, he directed efforts to engage employers, business organizations and the economic development community in support of Texas’ customer-focused, market-driven workforce system.
“Commissioner Demerson is instrumental in supporting Texas employers through education and skills training programs that improve career pathways for workers,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “His continued service for the State of Texas will benefit not only business interests, but the entire Lone Star State.”
Prior to his work with TWC, Commissioner Demerson worked as Senior Advisor to then Governor Rick Perry. He also led a team to market the State of Texas as a premier destination for business and tourism as Executive Director of the Economic Development & Tourism Division within the Office of the Governor.
He will conclude his service to TWC on Nov. 3rd, 2023.
