Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Apprenticeship Workforce Solutions Alamo along with Texas community colleges industry associations and trade unions invite area employers human resource professionals educators and other stakeholders to the 2nd Annual ApprenticeshipTexas Conference on September 20-21 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk in San Antonio to discuss best practices on setting up registered apprenticeship training programs.
United States Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta will deliver the keynote address where he will highlight the important role of apprenticeships in preparing the American workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow. The conference will provide an opportunity for hosts and stakeholders to gain insights from policy experts and leading practitioners in developing successful apprenticeship training programs. A signing ceremony is also scheduled with employers that are registering apprenticeship programs with DOL including St. Davids Hospital and South Texas College.
Participating in panel discussions include St. Davids Healthcare Brandt Company Industrial Component of Texas TRIO Electric McLane Co. Inc. Adaptive Construction Solutions.
Representatives from the Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services Business Relations (TWS-VRS) team also will be on site. The team helps educate employers on disability awareness and establishing practices to recruit hire and retain employees with disabilities. The team also provides employer assistance with candidate screening matching and job training. There is no cost to employers who receive services from TWS-VRS Business Relations.
The two-day ApprenticeshipTexas Conference is Sept. 20 from 9:30 a.m.- 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
