Weber: Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act

This bill passed the House, but it was very alarming that 158 Democrats voted  AGAINST requiring the deportation of illegal immigrants who assault women in the United States.

Report: AUSTIN, Texas (WASHINGTON, D.C.) –Over the last few years, we have been confronted with heartbreaking headlines about illegal immigrants committing horrific crimes against American citizens. Many of these stories involve the rape and sexual assault of women and young girls by criminals who should never have been allowed to enter our country in the first place.

A few miles up north from Southeast Texas, a 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was tied up, assaulted, strangled to death, and left under a bridge by two illegal immigrants from Venezuela. In Martha’s Vineyard, an illegal immigrant from Brazil was recently charged with five counts of rape of a child – after he was already found guilty of strangulation, assault and battery on a family or household member and threat to commit a crime last year. In Florida, a Guatemalan illegal immigrant sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in his van. And in South Louisiana, an illegal was arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint and brutally stabbing a man multiple times. These are just a few of the stories of the victims of the Biden-Harris border crisis.

The Biden-Harris Administration has utterly failed to enforce our nation’s border laws. They refuse to remove illegal aliens, even those with criminal records, and have made it harder to arrest and deport criminals in our communities. Just look at the numbers—in fiscal year 2023, we deported 41 percent fewer criminal illegal immigrants than we did in 2020, and 60 percent fewer than in 2019.

Since President Biden and "Border Czar" Kamala Harris took office, over 8.2 million illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border—including more than 378 individuals on the terrorist watchlist. Over 617,000 illegal immigrants convicted of a crime or facing charges are currently on ICE's non-detained docket, freely roaming our streets.

This week, House Republicans brought up H.R. 7909, the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, which amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to make illegal immigrants who are convicted of, who admit having committed, or who admit committing sex offenses or domestic violence inadmissible and deportable from the United States.

Key Facts About H.R. 7909 – Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act:

  • Between FY2021 and mid-July 2024, the Border Patrol made 52,058 arrests of illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds. This represents an alarming 130% increase compared to the Trump Administration.
  • Currently, under the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2000, illegal immigrants who commit domestic violence offenses can receive broad waivers. These waivers consider other factors before applying grounds for removal. As a result, deportation can be delayed or avoided, allowing criminal illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S.
  • H.R. 7909 addresses this by establishing a new ground of inadmissibility for domestic violence-related offenses. It makes illegal immigrants who are convicted of sex offenses, stalking, child abuse, or neglect inadmissible and deportable from the United States.

Protecting Retirement Savings for Americans
Under the leadership of the Biden-Harris administration, inflation has eroded Americans’ retirement savings. This week, I voted to pass the Protecting Americans’ Investments from Woke Policies Act to ensure financial institutions are focused on maximizing returns in retirement plans – not on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) factors.

ESG factors perform notoriously poorly, when they are prioritized in investment decisions. Financial Institutions should be focused on maximizing returns in retirement plans – not bankrolling Democrats’ radical initiatives and pet projects. Americans invest to secure a brighter future for themselves and their families, and I will not stop fighting to restore the American Dream
