Williams: National Defense Single Most Important Duty for Congress

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Representative Roger Williams (R Austin) who represents Fort Hood in the U.S. Congress last week testified before the House Appropriations Committees Subcommittee on Defense to request support for the continued production of military aircraft while the committee drafts the Fiscal Year 2018 defense appropriations bill.
The single most important duty for Congress is to provide for our national defense said Williams. Madam Chair our country is facing unprecedented threats here at home and abroad from radical Islamic terrorists Russia North Korea and China to name a few. As you make the difficult funding decisions for the FY18 Department of Defense Appropriations bill it is my hope that you ensure we have the strongest and most effective military to keep our country safe.
Williams last Wednesday voted for the FY17 defense appropriations bill to give U.S. armed service members a pay raise upgrade military equipment and ensure troop readiness. Specifically the funding measure will dedicate $132 billion for military personnel and $34 billion for health care benefits and psychological and cancer research.
