WOOLLEY: Now Here's What 'Making America Great Again' Looks Like

Bottom line is, President Trump's "Making America Great Again – with and without Congress

By Lynn Woolley

AUSTIN, Texas (Texas Insider Report) — I love most of what President Trump is doing. In fact, it’s kind of what I’ve always dreamed of; you know, making a list of what’s been screwed up by the Left, and then checking them off as they get solved. Suddenly America would be great again.

But “suddenly” is not what the Framers of the Constitution had in mind. They created three separate but equal branches of government, forcing a slow, deliberative process for passing laws. President Trump goes around that by using Executive Orders.

I have a love-hate relationship with Executive Orders. Actually, I love to hate them. I especially hated them when Joe Biden was in the Oval Office and his autopen was at work opening up the Southern Border. I fumed that Biden did this on his own, and that Congress didn’t pass a bill, and that I never got to vote on it.

My beef with Biden – or whoever it was that made this awful decision – was that it fundamentally transformed my country, and I had no say in it. Not with a direct vote, and not through my duly-elected Congressman or Senator. Biden just did it.

Sure enough, the illegals flooded the country – some wearing “Thank You Joe Biden” tee-shirts, and some proceeding to commit crimes including murder.

All the other bad things about an open border came true as well: the drugs, the human trafficking and the cost of housing millions of illegals. Whether he was conscious of this or not, Biden did not care. He – and-or his handlers – was willing to accept the negative consequences in order to set the stage for future Democrat votes.

I already despised Executive Orders, and as Biden used them, I hated them more than ever.

Then, Trump took a page from the Obama and Biden playbook.

The playbooks states something like this: If you’re pretty sure Congress won’t pass what you want, screw them and draft an Executive Order. Obama used his infamous “pen and phone,” and Biden used an autopen. Either way, we got left-wing laws passed by a President that lacked the constitutional authority to make and implement laws. I hated it.

So, how am I supposed to feel when Trump does it?

Good and not good at the same time. Intellectually, I know he can’t do these things without Congress. That’s what the Constitution says and it’s what I’ve always preached – especially during the dismal, dreary Biden years. Biden, as we now know, was senile, and before him, Obama wanted to transform America. Both used Executive Orders when they needed to.

Here’s the conundrum: As a conservative, I could rail to my heart’s desire about left-wing presidents that I considered ideological dangers to my country. But Donald Trump is using Executive Orders to do many things that I fully support.

I can do one of two things:

  • First, I can be consistent and say that if I opposed lawmaking by a president I didn’t like, then I have to oppose it from a president I do like.
  • Or second, I can say the country is in crisis following the Obama and Biden administrations, and the only way to make America great again is to do what President Trump is doing.
That second option, uncomfortable as it is to say it, is true. Republicans control the House and Senate as of this writing, and still it would be hard, if not impossible, to get Trump’s ideas passed into actual law. You may have noticed that there is no great rush to do so, even though those majorities may fade away in the next mid-term elections.

As an example, why isn’t Congress moving to codify the DOGE cuts that were supervised by Elon Musk? Why isn’t Congress writing bills and passing them to implement Trump’s tariff policies, or at least passing a fresh law to give him full negotiating power? (Note that the Constitution unambiguously gives the power of setting tariffs to Congress, and some people, including me, do not think the Framers gave Congress the power to delegate it.) At some point, Congress must codify the tariffs, I would think.

Why isn’t Congress passing a bill to help Border Czar Tom Homan be able to legally mass-deport illegal aliens by coming up with a quick and easy way to provide due process and to clarify what due process means in these cases? Why isn’t Congress passing a law to eliminate the Department of Education and USAID? Why isn’t Congress doing much of anything to help?

Congress is too bogged down by fund-raising, re-election hopes, and crap-weasel lobbyists.

The Framers did not live to see this. They thought serving in Congress was something of a sacrifice. In modern times, being in Congress is power, a way to make a lot of money on the side (we need hearings), and meet girls or whatever. President Trump seems to get that.

Trump is not up for reelection. If he’s going to save America and make it great again, he can’t wait for a plodding Congress in which just under half the members see MAGA as a bad word.

If Trump is really going to make American great again, he can’t sit back and wait for Congress to help. There’s no time for that. They can’t get anything done – as evidenced by the lack of serious cuts in the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

President Trump seems, by his actions, to feel that he must act swiftly, far more swiftly than Congress could do even if all Republican agreed with him.

He’s doing it with Executive Orders just like Obama and Biden did – and he’s got the border under control. He’s implementing mass-deportations of illegal aliens, and fighting the courts every step of the way. He’s trying to reform our far left-wing Ivy League colleges into something the country can be proud of again.

He is removing wokeness from as many avenues of public life as he can. He’s removing the gay and transgender agenda from our Armed Forces, and he’s forcing men who pretend to be women out of women’s sports. I’m not sure he’s right about tariffs, but I’m not sure he’s wrong either. At the least, we may have some better deals on foreign trade and at best America’s coffers may fill up with tariff money. We’ll see.

The bottom line is, President Trump is making America great again – without Congress.

I don’t think it can be done with them. There is no scenario imaginable in which Congress would quickly pass the bills needed to match up with Trump’s EOs. So, he’s doing it without them, and he saying “screw you” to the lobbyists. The sad part about this is that if Congress were to rise to the task (laughter, please), then Trump would be able to avoid most of the legal challenges and would not have to deal with the federal judges that keep putting holds on his plans.

There is danger in making America great again with Executive Orders, but is there any other way to do it?

I’m not seeing it. My avice to Republicans in Congress is to dodge the TV cameras for just a while, and get to work by passing laws to support the EOs that Trump is signing. When the agenda is fully accomplished, they can go on “Meet the Press” and “Face the Nation” and answer insipid questions from college-indoctrinated hosts.

In the meantime, Trump will continue using the powers he has – and powers he actually doesn’t have – to make America great again.

Trump was dealt a poor hand by Biden’s autopen:

  • Two bloody Foreign Wars,
  • Choking National Debt,
  • an Open Border,
  • Rampant Inflation,
  • Failing Schools,
  • Wokeness in Higher Education and Medicine, and
  • a Declining Military.
Congress is not much help, so Trump is doing it by himself. If Republicans want to keep America great, they’d better start passing his EOs into law.

This is what Making America Great Again looks like.
