Texas Adds 48,600 Jobs in January, Marks 5% Growth in Jobs Added Over Year

Texas added 48,600 positions in January 2023, reaching 13,782,300 total nonfarm jobs. This marks the 16th consecutive record employment high based on a revision to the December 2022 report. Since January 2022, 654,100 jobs have been added in Texas, marking an annual growth rate of 5.0 percent.

Texas Economy Continues Strong Growth: Comptroller Hegar says Monthly Sales Tax Revenues Up from 2022

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will be sending Cities, Counties, Transit Systems & Special Purpose Taxing Districts across Texas $1 billion in Local Sales Tax Allocations for March – which is up 9.9% when compared to March 2022. These "allocations" are based on sales made during the month of January 2023, and are often seen as an indication of the direction of present, and/or future economic trends.

Representative Carrie Isaac filed two separate bills that will ensure improved stewardship of the Texas Hill Country – and of Texas. House Bill 3658 will require aggregate and concrete batch operators to conduct fence-line or property-line monitoring of emissions from their facilities, and House Bill 3624 incentivizes aggregate miners and concrete plant operators to have reclamation plans for their mines.

State Sales Tax Revenue Totaled $3.7 Billion in February

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.68 billion in February, 14.2 percent more than in February 2022. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.
