The Trump administration has made rooting out fraud in Medicare and Medicaid a central pillar of its policy agenda, an effort best embodied by J.D. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas-26) will host a roundtable on the Terminating Restrictive Enforcement of Youth Settlements (TREY’S Law). U.S. Sen. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is celebrating Adult Education and Family Literacy Week from Sept. 13-19, 2026. Instead of taking their caps off when walking through the door on Sept. 4, students from Harmony School of Innovation-Austin put their caps on for cancer by hosting a campuswide fundraiser for Caps for Kids. Caps for Kids is a national nonprofit organization that gifts hats autographed by celebrities, athletes, and musical artists to children undergoing cancer treatment. The extraordinary headwear provides emotional support, comfort, and a boost of confidence to children who experience hair loss during chemotherapy.

Texas could soon offer students a faster path to a bachelor’s degree if Governor Greg Abbott’s latest higher education proposal moves forward. Governor Abbott has written a letter to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop recommendations for how schools can grant bachelor’s degrees in three years. A three-year degree can reduce the overall cost of securing a degree and allow students to enter the workforce sooner.

Earlier this week, the House of Representatives voted 220-192 to approve a resolution condemning socialism. Only eight Democrats joined the Republicans in voting for the measure. It then turns to the rise of Democratic Socialists of America, and the DSA policy positions such as voting by noncitizens and incarcerated criminals, abolishing the U.S. Senate, and replacing the two-party system. It then denounces socialism in all its forms, declaring it incompatible with American values and the Constitution.

Today, on the first anniversary of Charlie’s death, I find myself thinking about how I knew him on a personal level — as a young man who believed deeply that his faith required him to act.
