"The leading bills currently under consideration in the Texas House are such a gift to the Gambling Industry, it begs the question: Whom are lawmakers really representing. The bills under consideration set the state’s cut at a measly 10%, ensuring that when that money is transferred from residents to the state, gambling companies keep a much greater share. You can almost hear the bookies salivating."
How can Texas be more successful in building affordable workforce housing – efficiently & safely – like some other areas across the country are doing? Our cities need to revisit their restrictive minimum lot size laws to make way for property rights approaches that help solve Texas’ housing shortage crisis. If we don’t make housing attainable for our growing workforce, Texas will lose its competitive edge.
"Ultimately, no one knows what's best for a child's success than their parents. This session, we'll empower every parent with the ability to choose the best high-quality education option for their child," said Gov. Greg Abbott last night during another "Parent Empowerment Night" – this one held at Parks Meadows Academy in Corsicana – advocating for Education Freedom & Parental Rights to a crowd of over 300 Texans.
The war in Ukraine should be viewed as a sideshow for the United States, just by our nation's U.S. Defense Industrial Base Capabilities alone. This is not a debate about aid to Ukraine, but rather is a debate on U.S. Military Production capabilities. If the United States wants to compete on the world stage in the immediate future, it needs to address this clear weakness in our nation's military capabilities – yesterday.
In 2023, the maximum a person can pay out of pocket for healthcare costs is $9,100–$18,200 for a family. And according to the U.S. Census, the Median Household Income in Texas is $67,321, which means it’s not likely that most families – especially those impacted by chronic disease – can afford to pay that much out of pocket. So, how do people afford their medications?
“They don’t know whose it is, and they don’t know what it is. They can’t even tell you what it looks like,” said Sen. Marco Rubio, the top Republican on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. “The most important questions we have to answer now are, ‘What are these things’? Who sent them? And, what are they doing here?',” said Rubio as Senators emerged from a briefing provided by the Biden White House's intelligence officials.
Normally I agree with the late-great Humorist P.J. O'Rourke, who wrote, "Distracting politicians from governing is like distracting a bear from eating your baby... or stopping a dog from chewing on your wallet at least." But, the Texas legislature's begun its Bi-Annual 140 Day Session, so I want to encourage you to politely, kindly, and respectfully let them know your priorities – and show them you're watching.
Customs & Border Protection officials announced late Friday that they had stopped 251,487 illegal immigrants along the Mexican Border in December – the highest number of illegal border crossers recorded during any month of Joe Biden's presidency. That's up from 234,896 in November, and represents whopping a 40% increase from the 179,253 apprehensions of year ago in December 2021.
Research on the long-term health impacts of marijuana is linked to increased risk of several mental health conditions and respiratory complications. But supporters of state level marijuana legalization tout its economic benefits, including increased tax revenue. Those that have legalized and taxed recreational or medical marijuana, however, show minimal tax revenue benefits. Its the ultimate exercise in public health costs and benefits.
With the recent release of controversial Cong. Adam Schiff's Twitter files – and disclosures of the F.B.I.'s involvement in Twitter’s censorship program – we now have another rare insight into how government officials attempted to enlist Social Media for election-influencing. It's precisely why so many in the media and the Democrat establishment are mobilizing against new Twitter owner Elon Musk, who continues to release the compromising evidence.
The 88th Texas Legislative Session began earlier this week on Tuesday, January 10th. The Texas House of Representatives Swearing-In Ceremony was held on the House Floor at noon on January 10th, and if you are unable to join us I'd like to invite you to come to Austin during the 88th Session and visit our Capitol Office. We want you to be a part of your Texas Legislature and the decisions that are made.
“Today, Republicans began working toward protecting and strengthening America against the immediate threats we face from the Chinese Communist Party. This new Select Committee will thoroughly investigate the malicious actions the CCP has already taken – and provide solutions to protect American citizens," said Texas Congressman Pete Sessions immediately after the U.S. House voted to establish a new Select Committee on the issue.
“If you look at the competitive seats on the 2024 election map, all of them are held by Democrats. You have to squint very hard to find a pickup opportunity for them,” said Jacob Rubashkin of the non-partisan campaign tracker Inside Elections. Senators like West Virginia's Joe Manchin are becoming endangered species, and they're up for reelection in battleground states with targets on their backs.
After Holiday Travelers all across America face a nationwide Artic Blast and are burned by 1,000s of airline delays traveling home for Christmas, and as many fight what's amounted to the "perfect storm" of issues affecting air travel in Texas – the 2nd-most populous state in the U.S. and home to 5 of its 15 Largest Cities – here’s one way for the Feds & the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to respond.
With the Holiday Season upon us, it's important to remember there are many Texas residents that may need a helping hand this winter. In this week’s column, I'd like to continue a discussion about helping others by sharing a few simple ways you can make a significant impact in the life of someone less fortunate this year. I have outlined some of the many giving opportunities available at some of Texas' Coastal Bend charities.
“Viktor Bout’s arms trafficking activity has been a concern around the globe for decades. Today he faces the prospect of life in prison for his efforts to sell millions of dollars worth of weapons to terrorists for use in killing Americans,” said Barack Obama's then-Attorney General Eric Holder in 2011 after Bout’s conviction. “One of the world’s most prolific arms dealers is being held accountable for his sordid past,” Holder said. Under Joe Biden, all that's changed.
What's clear is that Elon Musk – despite the full mobilization of the D.C. Swamp against him – is undeterred, thank goodness. In fact, the normally unstoppable forces of Washington may have met their first immovable object. What is also clear, is that the Biden Campaign never denied Hunter Biden's laptop was Hunter Biden's laptop. On Tuesday, Musk fired Twitter's Deputy General Counsel – and disgraced former FBI General Counsel – Jim Baker.
My son-in-law, Greg, helped save my life a couple months ago. For those who don’t know, being added to a transplant waitlist is quite a process – and there are many more Texans waiting for a transplant than there are deceased-donor organs available. That's why Greg's "live donation" helped save my life. In less time than it'll take you to read my story, you can visit DonateLifeTexas.org to see if you're registered to help save someone else's life.
Californians pay 80% above the national average for electricity, and Germans have the highest electricity prices in the world. Yes, contrary to what Americans typically see or hear – and are told by the Mainstream Media – reliance on wind and solar power actually increases the costs of your electric bills. California and Germany are prime examples of what happens when a state or nation relies to heavily on wind and-or solar energy.
"This incredible, groundbreaking new therapy has the potential to revolutionize how we combat fentanyl deaths and end the afflictions of addiction that burdens so many innocent Texans & Americans across the country," said Gov. Greg Abbott, celebrating the tremendous achievement of University of Houston researchers who have developed a groundbreaking fentanyl vaccine with the potential to save millions of lives from overdose poisonings and addiction.
