“I work for the people of Texas’ 36th District – home to more Petrochemical Plants & Oil Refineries than any other Congressional District in the nation. This White House has waged an all-out war against us, our jobs, and the security of our nation. These are the facts... this bill combats President Biden and his environmental activists by accelerating energy project permitting," said Cong. Brian Babin.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said today that State Sales Tax Revenue – which at 56% of all the state's tax collections is the largest source of state funding for the State Budget – was 4.1% more during May of this year than in May 2022. “The rate of sales tax growth continues to moderate – and this was the lowest annual rate of increase observed in the 26 months since the end of the pandemic,” Hegar said.
“John Scott has the background and experience to step in as a short-term Interim Attorney General during the time the Attorney General has been suspended,” said Gov. Abbott. Mr. Scott served as Texas' Deputy A.G. for Civil Litigation for then-Attorney General Greg Abbott, where he aided Abbott’s efforts to hold the Obama White House accountable by suing Mr. Obama more than any other Attorney General.
In fairness, the McCarthy-Biden plan asserts something they call “Administrative Pay-Go.” It ostensibly requires bureaucrats to demonstrate how they pay for new programs or increases in spending. Sounds good, right? Except Congress has had a similar program for many years without it slowing down our spending. The original bill passed out of the House last month with a savings of some $131 billion.
“Mexico’s arguments in this lawsuit don’t hold water, which is why the suit was thrown out in the District Court last year. What the government of Mexico is trying to do, is impose its own interpretation of American law on American businesses – and it demonstrates a disregard for our Constitution and our 2nd Amendment," said Sen. Ted Cruz, along with 35 members of the House who joined in support.
“Mr. Miles’ experience with large school districts and implementing ground-breaking initiatives – including with Charter Schools – makes him a perfect fit for the task at hand in Texas’ largest school system. I’m confident that under his leadership – along with the new Board of Managers – the focus will be on improving the educational outcomes of our HISD school children,” said State Sen. Paul Bettencourt of Houston.
"The Texas Legislature failed the people of Texas by not passing numerous conservative priorities – including Property Tax Relief & Border Security," said Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison, as he responded to Gov. Greg Abbott’s special session agenda by filing a number of bold bills on property taxes and border security. These include his "Texas Title 42 Act" to secure the Texas-Mexico Border, and bills to cut property taxes.
"I could not in good conscious come home and defend a 'yes' vote," said Texas Cong. Lance Gooden after voting "no" on the National Debt Ceiling increase bill, which he said "did nothing to cap the debt limit, deferred it to a future 2025 Lame Suck Session of Congress, and at best results in a cut of only $15 billion. It would have been a vote for bigger government, higher taxes, and lower accountability."
Yes, the Woke Left still enjoys enormous advantages over the Right – a bicoastal elite with far more money, and domination in the dissemination of knowledge through traditional and social media. But the Left does not enjoy majority support with the American Public. And now it's managed to do the impossible – its goaded a normally comatose conservative dragon to awaken, and it is just starting to breathe fire.
“Since the Texas House chose to continue allowing Texans to be forced to take a COVID vaccine or be fired during the Regular Session, I will continue to file the 'Texas COVID Vaccine Freedom Act' every session, even if the Governor does not add it to the call. Texas employers – such as CVS and virtually all healthcare entities – still require COVID-19 vaccines for employment, and Texans have no protection from being fired if not vaccinated.
If Republican leaders nationally took the advice of those of us who represent Middle America to broadcast the specifics of their message, would it have been received in a more penetrating and effective way with the American Public? I now have the same worry for Republicans in the Texas State Legislature... especially when it comes to the issue of Property Taxes. Texans are waiting at their homes.
"I've been crystal-clear – the taxpayers of Texas deserve to receive the largest property tax cut in Texas history,” said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick after the Texas Senate unanimously approved Sen. Paul Bettencourt's SB 1 and Senate Joint Resolution 1 to provide sustainable and permanent Property Tax Relief by increasing the Homestead Exemption for homeowners under 65 to $100,000, and $110,000 for those over 65.
“It’s important to remember – no federal assistance program is designed to make you whole after a disaster. It's up to you to plan properly, protect your home with wind and flood insurance, and safeguard your documents," said Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, encouraging Texans statewide to prepare for the 2023 Hurricane Season that runs Thursday, June 1st through November 30th.
House Republicans proposed requiring food stamp recipients and people on Medicaid to work 20 hours a week or participate in some job-readiness activity such as training, high school equivalency courses or substance abuse treatment. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy explained that government assistance programs are supposed to be "temporary, not permanent" and "a bridge to independence" rather than a lifestyle.
Almost immediately after the Texas House and Senate adjourned 2023's Regular Legislative Session Monday Evening – without addressing a significant number of the most important issues they had promised to address – Gov. Greg Abbott called them back to work at 9:00 p.m. for "Special Session #1," saying, "Many critical items remain that must be passed. Several special sessions will be required."
“This was a session with significant victories for Texans – but unfortunately, far too many of the people’s conservative priorities, sponsored by the Senate, were killed in the Texas House. Unfortunately, 9 of the Texas Senate’s top 30 Priority Bills never received hearings in the House, and... thousands of other important bills were killed in the House to the detriment of all Texans," said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
For the past 99 years, Border Patrol agents have been responsible for securing our nation’s borders between ports of entry while simultaneously combating the illegal immigration crisis, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. Sen. Cruz has an extensive history of working with Border Patrol to ensure they are provided with the tools necessary to accomplish the tasks of securing our nation’s border.
The interference and aggression coming from the Chinese Communist Party poses a significant threat to our families, businesses, and country. Legislation I led, the China Financial Threat Mitigation Act passed in the House and has been sent to the Senate for a vote.
