"We passed all of Gov. Abbott's emergency priorities, and delivered a budget that fully funds education and keeps our commitments to health care, infrastructure and public safety – all without going above the rate of inflation times population. We also passed 28 of my 30 priority bills, 20 of which have been signed into law or will be soon," said Texas' Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
The 87th Texas Legislature sent 1,073 Bills & Resolutions to the governor's desk for approval or veto. And because the 2021 Session covered dozens issues important to Texas – including but not limited to addressing health care, increasing funding for public education, and expanding high-speed internet statewide – here's what you need to know.
“There is mounting evidence that the pandemic started in a Chinese lab, and the Communist Party covered it up. The American people, and the entire world, deserve answers to the origins of COVID-19,” said Texas Cong. Tony Gonzales and other House Republicans, asking Speaker Nancy Pelosi to perform a full investigation.
The irony is overwhelming. Democrats in Washington, D.C. have been trying to kill the Senate filibuster because it provides Republicans a tool to halt their "remake America as we know it" efforts. Yet what are state level Democrats doing in Texas? They walked off the House Floor in Austin Sunday evening to halt a Republican initiative.
“Resurgent consumer spending drove monthly state sales tax collections to a new high. Compared to May 2019, sales tax collections were up 12.9%,” said Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar earlier today, announcing that State Sales Tax Revenue totaled $3.4 billion in May, the highest-ever monthly total and 30.1% more than in May 2020.
With President Biden's latest actions to reverse Donald Trump's "Energy Independence" efforts – suspending drilling in parts of the U.S. and eliminating 100,000+ American jobs by halting the Keystone Pipeline – economists predict Americans can expect to see higher prices at the pump this summer and a possible return to Barack Obama’s “new normal.”
President Biden is asking Americans to believe that he can raise taxes, smother the private sector with regulations, kill the oil & gas industry, and fill the government's regulatory agencies with activists hostile to the nation’s economic system and it will have no effect on the nation's economic performance. But back in the real world, experience tells us otherwise.
As the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board pointedly observed: “When did emergency procedures amid a 100-year pandemic suddenly become the new baseline? The 67-page bill would roll back Covid-19 innovations like Harris County’s drive-through voting and 24-hour voting. It’s hardly crazy to think polling-place shenanigans might be more likely to happen at 3 a.m.”
In his Memorial Day remarks at Arlington Cemetery yesterday, President Joe Biden warned the crowd, “Democracy itself is in peril – Here at home and around the world.” Well, yes, President Biden, clearly American liberty and our national security are in grave peril – and here's why you are either clueless, or complicit in what threatens us.
Remember to Honor Those Who've Given their Lives for Our Freedom this Memorial Day...
The Texas House crossed another major deadline at midnight Wednesday morning, shutting down the ability for any more Senate Bills to be considered on the House Floor. This 2021 Session's already brought several policy victories for Texas Republicans, and more are expected to be delivered to Gov. Abbott's desk in these last few days of session. Here's how to track the progress.
"In just the first four months of this year alone, the Texas Department of Public Safety has seized more fentanyl than is needed to kill every man, woman & child in the State of New York. President Biden's open border policies have led to a surge in this deadly drug coming into our communities, and we must do more to combat this crisis,” said Gov. Abbott during a Thursday a press conference in Ft. Worth.
“Texas has the 9th largest economy in the world, and this budget ensures it will continue to flourish," said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick after passage of the 2022-2023 Texas State Budget. "Because of the border crisis precipitated by current federal policies, we maintained support for enhanced Border Security and provided pay increases for our brave Dept. of Public Safety Troopers & other Law Enforcement."
Unless we want to depend on foreign adversaries to feed our families and the growing demand around the world, its in our best economic and national security interest to support the American Farmer & Rancher. Vilifying the Cattle Industry as a major climate change contributor is intellectually dishonest & absurd. Here's why products of national importance must be made in the U.S.
The declining margins of victory for Republicans in Texas is reportedly due to changes in demographics, but the bigger reason is the increased exploitation of Early & Mail-In Voting by the Democrat machine in the Lone Star state. The Republican-controlled Texas legislature is wrapping up its biennial session this weekend, and the nation is watching to see if it enacts true election reform.
Flashback: Nearly half of Florida's Latino Voters cast a ballot for President Trump in November, and Democrats were roundly criticized for once again failing to build an outreach effort sufficient enough to even beat even Donald Trump in the Sunshine State. Of even bigger concern to them should be Trump's remarkable gains among Hispanic Voters in far South Texas' Rio Grande Valley.
In Texas, the State Legislature meets for 140 days every odd-numbered year to hear, review & potentially pass various pieces of legislation. This year's 87th Session began January 12th, and ends at midnight next Monday, May 31st. That means we're entering the final days of the 2021 Session and there are a number of specific deadlines that every legislator and their staffs are feverishly watching.
As talks over Joe Biden's supposedly "bipartisan" infrastructure plans have shown little progress for weeks, moderate Democrats in the House & Senate are withholding their endorsements. And with the likelihood of a Democrat-only backed push for Mr. Biden’s $4 trillion tax increase & spending spree growing – sagging prospects for 2022 are increasingly on Democrat's minds.
