Comptroller Hegar Makes Appointments to Statewide Task Force to Combat Organized Retail Theft

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today announced 10 appointments to the recently created statewide Organized Retail Theft Task Force, which will study the impact of organized retail crime in this state and provide recommendations to address this problem. Gov. Abbott, TVC Announce Over $36 Million In Grants for Veterans

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) today announced over $36 million in grant funding for veterans across Texas that will be distributed through TVC's Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) Big Check Tour. Approved by TVC Commissioners in May, this grant funding will be awarded to 135 organizations across Texas and will serve more than 81,700 Texas veterans and their families.

Texas Students Continue to Withdraw from Public Schools, Move to Homeschool Education

According to the most recent data released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to the Texas Home School Coalition (THSC,) Texas experienced 29,765 withdrawals from public school to homeschool between grade 7-12 during the 2021-2022 school year.  This high has previously only been matched during the COVID-19 peak in the 2020–2021 school year, when the number was 29,845.

Comptroller Hegar Announces Continued Economic Growth, as Texas State Revenues Increase in August

“Revenues for Fiscal Year 2023 were ahead of our projections released in January,” said Comptroller Glenn Hegar, announcing that August 2023 State Sales Tax Revenues increased 5.7% over August 2022. Total sales tax revenue for the three months ending August 2023 were up 5.0% from the year earlier. At 57% of all collections, Sales Taxes are the largest source of state funding.
