Texas offers three tax-advantaged 529 plans: the Texas College Savings Plan® (TCSP) and the LoneStar 529 Plan® (LS529), both college savings plans, and the Texas Tuition Promise Fund® (TTPF), a prepaid tuition plan. The plans are known as 529 plans because they are authorized by Internal Revenue Code Section 529.
Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health & Human Services Commission has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a second round of federal P-EBT food benefits for families with children who have lost access to free or reduced-price school meals due to COVID-19. The application will be open from June 2 to August 13, and are processed when received.
“This overwhelming vote in the Texas Senate – which includes more than 10 Senate Democrat votes to ban camping statewide – sends a strong message to Mayor Steve Adler, Council Member Greg Casar and the rest of city hall that their efforts to allow unregulated public camping anywhere and regulated camping in city parks is extreme and will not be allowed in Texas.

Texas' Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) has completely rebuilt more than 3,000 homes for Texas families through the Homeowner Assistance Program. GLO is also helping renters in 48 eligible counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey to rehabilitate and reconstruct multifamily units damaged or destroyed by the hurricane.

After a bill authored by Ft. Worth State Rep. Charlie Geren was signed by Gov. Abbott, Texas businesses that had come of their COVID-related relief loans forgiven by the federal government will not have to report those loan proceeds as income on their 2021 State Franchise Tax Reports.
Texas politicians have every right to be upset at other state legislatures when they play politics with their state's pension funds – at the possible expense of a key industry in Texas like oil & gas. But, the answer isn’t for Texas to respond by putting its own restrictions on other pension managers and potentially reduce the growth of the pension funds in The Lone Star State.
